Funeral Services

We will assist you and your family in planning a funeral and choosing the options that best suits your family's needs, along with your loved one's wishes. We are able to assist you in holding services in a wide variety of areas. Whether it is our chapel, your church, or the cemetery, we are able to prepare a meaningful service to honor your loved one. We will listen to you and your family to help to arrange a celebration of your loved one's life through whatever means you choose.

In addition to "at-need" funeral services our staff also provides the following services.

Online Memorials

For every family we serve at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, we include a permanent online memorial tribute for your loved one.  Unlike what you may find at various other funeral homes, our online memorials are displayed forever, giving you, your family, and friends the permanent ability to view the memorial, along with reading and/or signing the guestbook.  Our online memorial tributes provide all bibliographical information about your loved one, including all service related information, along with a guestbook, in which anyone can become involved by simply clicking on the guestbook icon.

Obituary Notices

We will help you and your family prepare a personalized biography of your loved one for the publishing in obituary sections in all newspapers of your choice.

Veteran's Benefits

We will help you secure your veterans benefits, such as a United States burial flag, government cemetery marker, presidential memorial certificate, and potential burial plot.  In appreciation for your loved ones service to our country, our funeral home donates a hard-wood flag case for a tasteful display of your flag, in which you are entitled to keep.

Social Security

We will notify the Social Security Administration of the passing of your loved one. We will explain and help you apply for any benefits you may be entitled to through Social Security.

Death Certificates

We will assist you in obtaining certified copies of death, which can be important for insurance purposes as well a host of other issues. The certified copies of death are issued from the Department of Health in the county which the decedent passed away. The cost of each individual certificate is set by each county, (Wells County @ $12.00, Adams County @ $10.00, and Allen County @ $12.00).  For additional cost information, please contact the funeral home and we will be happy to assist you.

Items which usually require a certified copy of death are:

       Life insurance benefits

       Automobile title change

       Pension transfers

       Certificate of deposits

       Bank accounts

       Lending institutions

After Care

Sometimes the loss of a loved one can be especially painful. We understand that the grieving process does not end with the funeral. We are here not only to help arrange the funeral, but to help families cope with the loss of their loved one. There are a wide variety of grief resources available and we will help to point you in the right direction and begin the healing process.
